What’s the Difference Between Type 1 & Type 3 Ambulance?

Ambulance are divided into 3 types: Type 1ambulance-truck box type ambulance, Type2 ambulance- van type ambulance, type 3-van box type ambulance. Both type1 & type 3 are box type ambulances, but what’s the difference between them? Herein we list some tips for your reference:    


1. The definition.

Type 1 ambulance is a kind of ambulance which has a pick-up truck chassis with a box mounted as the patient care compartment.  

Type 3 ambulance is a kind of ambulance which has a van chassis with a box mounted as the patient care compartment.

2. The pros & cons.

Type I ambulance is based on 4*4 WD truck, the patient compartment likes a large room, and can be equipped with much more medical equipment. The truck chassis have better ground clearance than van chassis. The type I ambulance tends to be wide and is generally unsuitable for rural use due to narrow roads. 


Type 3 ambulance is based on both 4*4WD or 4*2 WD cut-a-way van chassis, the patient compartment room is larger than van type ambulance. Type 3 ambulance tends to be used for rural area and urban area.


Type 1 and type 3 ambulances are mostly used at airports, chemical plants, oil refineries and when the ambulance has to be equipped with medical equipment for Advance Life Support.
